Hello everyone, today we want to talk to you about fine hair! When we talk about fine hair, we are referring to the specific structure of the hair, which in these cases appears thinner than the normal thickness of the hair shaft (which should be around 0.07 millimeters), and is therefore lacking in volume. The diameter of the hair is linked to genetic factors and therefore varies from person to person, which means that some people may boast thick and strong hair from birth, while others are born with fine and weak hair, carrying this characteristic with them as they grow. The thickness of the hair is an aspect that should not be underestimated, as it can significantly affect its appearance as well as its state of health: fine hair is generally more delicate than thick hair and more subject to external agents, changes in temperature, stress, chemical treatments, and hormonal fluctuations, which is why it requires greater attention and targeted interventions.
Hair is composed of three layers; the innermost one (the cortex) contains the highest concentration of keratin. In thin hair, the amount of keratin is lower, consequently, the hair appears thinner, less resistant, and more prone to breakage even when it is perfectly healthy. As is easy to guess, having thin or sparse hair can lead to serious difficulties, especially for women, who find themselves fighting every day to give more volume to their hair or to find the right hairstyle so that the hair does not look flat and dull. Even brushing hair is complicated for those with fine hair because the risk of breakage is just around the corner. Let's look in detail at what the main causes of fine hair are and what the most effective remedies are for dealing with this problem.
The causes of thin hair
1. Age
Age is one of the main factors that determines hair health: thickness will therefore be more evident in adolescent subjects compared to those of adult age. For this reason, it becomes necessary, as the years go by, to pay attention and give special care to your hair as you age.
2. Hair color
The thickness of the hair varies depending on the color: in general, the darker it is, the greater the diameter. Several scientific studies have shown that those with blonde hair tend to have finer and more breakable hair than those with brown or black hair, and are therefore more in need of strengthening treatments. In cases of canities, or white hair, there is instead a more rapid hair growth and a thicker diameter, but greater sensitivity to deterioration due to aggressive treatments, such as dyes and perms.
3. External atmospheric agents
Exposure to atmospheric agents (pollution, smog, UV rays, salt, chlorine, wind, cold) damages the hydro-lipid balance of the hair, weakening it and making it thinner and drier. Prevention and the use of specific treatments are therefore fundamental to preserve the health of the hair.
4. Poor nutrition
An excessively low-calorie diet, lacking in protein, vitamins (especially those of the D group), minerals, and other essential nutrients can cause a depletion of the hair's cortex layer, making it more fragile and thin.
5. Pharmacological therapies
Taking medication, especially for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, can slow down cellular production and the correct process of expelling toxins from the scalp. In similar situations, hair grows thinner and weaker.
6. Stress and psycho-physical tension
Prolonged periods of high stress can lead to excessive sebum production and consequently oily hair, as well as the production of toxins that slow down the hair growth process.
7. Aggressive aesthetic treatments
Undergoing aggressive treatments, such as dyes, perms, bleaching, and the prolonged use of hair dryers and straighteners, can strongly weaken the structure and cuticle of the hair and, in some cases, even cause irreparable damage to the hair. It is advisable to favor the use of delicate products and reduce the use of heated tools.

What are the remedies for fine and thin hair
Healthy lifestyle habits prove fundamental for strengthening the hair structure and providing it with the right protection. Cosmetic treatments can certainly be a big help in this sense, acting on the hair structure and giving greater body and resistance to the hair. Furthermore, the use of products with restructuring properties based on keratin can prove to be an excellent remedy for thickening and strengthening thin and fragile hair. There are several precautions that we can put into practice right away to mitigate the problem and encourage the growth of more robust hair. Let's discover together the most effective remedies for strengthening fine and thin hair.
1. Use a suitable shampoo
One of the most common mistakes is choosing the wrong shampoo for your hair type. It is therefore important to choose hair cleansers that do not damage the already thin hair structure, and purchase a shampoo for fine hair that has a specific formulation capable of providing support and the right nourishment to the hair.
2. Use conditioners and masks for fine hair
Choose your conditioner and mask with care. If you have fine and thin hair, it will most likely also be dry; here you will need a conditioner and a mask capable of deeply nourishing your hair, making it softer and hydrated. But be careful not to choose formulas that are too rich, which risk weighing it down too much, leading you to achieve the opposite effect. Choose a conditioner for fine hair with natural active ingredients that do not dry out your hair lengths, and once a week opt for a nourishing mask for fine hair with a light formulation and, better yet, an organic one.
3. Opt for a haircut that adds volume In the case of fine hair, it is better to choose a full haircut that gives volume to the style, avoiding layers. You can opt for a bob or a short and perky cut, suited to your face shape and age. For thin hair, overly straight hairstyles are discouraged, as they create more emptiness rather than filling it; it is better to choose soft, wavy styles.
4. Keratin treatments
Keratin treatments are capable of nourishing the hair in depth and repairing any damage due to coloring, exposure to atmospheric agents, and the use of straighteners. Furthermore, they give brightness to the hair and make it incredibly smooth, proving particularly suitable for those with frizzy and rebellious hair.
5. Follow a healthy and balanced diet
Opt for a balanced diet rich in vitamins and trace elements to have stronger, thicker, and younger-looking hair for longer and to reduce hair loss. In the case of fragile hair, eggs are the right food to give them vigor: they are in fact rich in biotin, a substance that stimulates hair growth, strengthening its structure. Another essential ingredient for the health of weak hair is beta-carotene: it is contained above all in carrots, pumpkin, cauliflower, and asparagus. Against brittle hair, it is also recommended to consume foods that contain vitamins A and C, in particular citrus fruits, broccoli, and leafy vegetables; while to promote the production of keratin, it is important to eat foods that contain vitamin B6, such as spinach, legumes, and dried fruit. Among the foods that contribute to the well-being of fragile hair, we find, in general, seasonal fruits and vegetables, fish, low-fat cheeses, and olive oil: an excellent ally for saying goodbye to dry and dull hair.
6. Natural remedies for fine hair
There are many natural remedies to give more volume and body to fine and thin hair, such as olive oil, castor oil, or flaxseed oil masks, to be left on for half an hour before shampooing. These three oils with highly moisturizing properties are capable of effectively nourishing the hair, from roots to ends, and giving the hair incredible volume and vigor. Oats also prove to be an ideal ally for making fine, breakage-prone hair stronger and thicker. To make the wrap, you must add 5 teaspoons of oatmeal to 1 liter of water and boil the preparation. It will be enough to do the final rinse with the water and oatmeal mixture to get hair that is immediately more invigorated!
Another natural remedy to give volume to fine and brittle hair, while deeply hydrating it, involves the use of ginger. A mixture based on ginger powder and olive oil is prepared to be applied to the lengths and ends once a week, for hair that is more voluminous and regenerated. Finally, it is possible to prepare a nourishing mask for thin and fragile hair using, believe it or not, a banana: it is a truly valid fruit for nourishing hair and giving it shine. To make the banana mask, you just need to mash the fruit with a fork and add two tablespoons of milk to obtain a rich and nourishing paste. It is recommended to repeat the treatment once or twice a week.
